My Work

I  started my career as Assistant Conservator of Forests in Channagiri mobile squad  where  I was instrumental in stopping rampant poaching of  sandal wood, timber and other products.  I also started creating mass awareness among people  in the area about the importance of conserving forests.

As Assistant Conservator of Forests,  in 1985 in Raichur Forest division, successfully raised plantations around the Raichur Thermal plant for reducing the effect of increase in the temperature.  I undertook measures in creating awareness in the surrounding villages about the need for protecting  environment by planting trees.  The  next year I was transferred to Kushtagi (Koppal District.) District watershed Development Programme, there with the involvement of local people specially water conservation works were carried out on community basis and responsible for getting the “ National Productivity award “ in 1989.

I served as Deputy Conservator of Forests in Chitradurga Forest Division from 1993-96.  In those years I  involved the local schools in the afforestation programme, thereby creating awareness in the school children.  The road-side plantations were successfully raised with the co-operation of local people as it is a dry district with lot of sheep and goat population.  I am responsible for getting the “ Indira  Priyadrshani award” to Chitradurga Division for the success of plantations on  community lands and road-sides, with the involvement of local people.  A natural forest named as “Bandravi” has been protected and preserved as  “Nature Reserve” in the dry zone.  I tried to popolarise  the  “Jogimatti” as one of the important destination of the area.

While serving as Deputy Conservator of Forests in Bidar from 1991 to 1993, successfully launched the village forest committees, raised plantations on community land and road sides with the co-operation of local people.  The school planting programme has been taken on large scale with the involvement of Education Department and school children.  Specially school children are my target, for spreading  awareness about environment and natural balance.

As Deputy Conservator of Forests in Karwar and Yellapur Forest division, I have successfully involved the local people in the protection of Westernghats, by creating village Forest committees, youth associations and school children. The religious institutions and school children were effectively utilized in creating the awareness about the importance of conserving the Natural Forests.  The religious Heads were effective in  imparting the knowledge to the local people (devotees) and the seedlings given by the Swamijis  were  accepted by the individuals as “Prasad” and seedlings were definitely looked after by the people.  The seedlings have been distributed to the local people during the monsoon time, by arranging a festival called Hasiru Habba”.  The results  of this is evident in Mundagod taluk of Uttar-Kannada  district.  The documentary named “ Ulaviyalli Harisukraanthi” , has been telecasted in Dooradarshan, which is about protecting the forests around Ulavi area during Jatra time wherein large number of devotees from northern districts of Karnataka on visiting  the area.

Then I moved on to Rural Development of Panchayathiraj Department in 2003 and served as Chief Executive  Officer,  of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath, Mangalore, where in lot of initiatives have been taken  by me for effective implementation of rural development programme.  One such initiative in consisting large number of Self Help Groups (SHG’s) with the involvement of Srishektra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project.  The SHG’s  in the district ,were effective in income generation activities, marketing their products on their own by constituting the Federation of SHG’s in the district.  Hence they are sustainable on their own.

As Chief Executive Officer of Uttar-Kannada  district, I have taken initiative in the implementation of drinking water project called  “Jalnirmal”, where in local committees were farmed  to  plan, implement and maintain the water supply projects in the rural areas.  This district is unique in the implementation of “Jari scheme”, Jari’s  are the natural streams in the forest area, by putting small bund water will be stored and that water will be brought to slow  sand filters tank on gravity wherin Clorination   will be carried out, and then the water will be supplied to village people through pipes to their houses.  The village people have devised their own mechanism for regulating the water supply  to all the houses on equitable distribution.  This,  has created awareness about the protection of forests in the catchment area of the stream, resulted in large scale fire protection, which was  one of the main reason for the degeneration of forests. This year  11 GPS  in Uttar-Kannada district for the  restoration in tunnel  has  bagged “Nirmal gram puraskar” for achieving 100% sanitation, open  defecation for villages with proper solid waste management. Under National literacy programme for the effective implementation of continued education, the Uttara kannada district has been selected for the 'Satyen Mitra National literacy award" for the year 2007 which was awarded to me by the President of India

Currently I am the Managing Director of Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation
